CASH-STRAPPED councils across Wales have spent more than £12m of taxpayers money on credit cards – buying Argos vouchers, Cheddar cheese, Nintendo Wiis and trips to attractions such as Oakwood and the London Eye.

When asked about Powys council’s decision to spend £7,298.24 on Cheddar cheese and Ceredigion and the Vale of Glamorgan council’s reliance on the WPC to fund trips to Oakwood Theme Park and the London Eye at a cost of £5,487.75 and £884 respectively, Mr Jones said: “It’s absolutely crackers.
