Monmouthshire council aims to relocate Abergavenny market to Raglan, nine miles away, to allow a new supermarket to be built on the site. But under a 19th century Act of Parliament, Abergavenny has a legal right to a market of its own.
Ann Taruschio, who with her husband Franco used to run the Walnut Tree restaurant, said: “The livestock market brings the town alive. Farmers come from miles around and visitors enjoy coming to look at a real event. It’s very good for traders and without it Abergavenny will be a ghost town……..
