Whether you are serious about supporting local producers, reducing your food miles, or just appreciate tasting good food and drink then the Mid Wales Food Festival is the place for you and your family.
The Festival is set in the divine setting of Glansevern Hall Gardens, Berriew, Powys and has established itself as the largest food and drink festival in Mid Wales and the borders. The two day event takes place on Saturday and Sunday (4th and 5th September.)
2010 promises to be the best yet with over 100 producers showcasing their fabulous produce and cooking demonstrations from one of the UK’s most exciting chefs – Bryn Williams.
Bryn, who shot to fame after winning the public’s vote to cook for the Queen’s 80th birthday celebrations on the television programme Great British Menu will be doing several cookery demonstrations at the Festival on Sunday, 5 September. He will also be on hand to give consumers some top cooking tips.
From cakes, chutneys and cheeses to wines, ales and chocolates –there will be plenty of food and drink to tantalise the taste buds of young and old alike. Children can get their hands stuck into making bread and pizza plus the opportunity to mill flour and press apples to create their very own juice.
The festival, which is not for profit showcases the best of Powys – “ It’s about getting people interested in their local food. It promotes the best of Welsh produce and gives consumers the opportunity to meet producers,” said Nellie Thomas, proprietor of Glansevern Hall.
The Festival is unique because of its courtyard food market. “ As far as we are aware there is no other food festival run on the grounds of a country house. It gives the festival such an amazing atmosphere especially with the courtyard full of stalls; it really is captivating” said Jenny Thomas.
People attending the festival will have the opportunity to leisurely explore Glansevern Hall garden which covers some 25 acres making it one the largest in Wales. Set on the River Severn the garden is full of secluded corners and secret places. Various sculptures are poised through the gardens which are renowned for their variety of unusual trees; some of which are the oldest in Wales.
